American Tours of Japan 1949-58
1949 San Fransico Seals
In 1949, the San Francisco
Seals, managed by Lefty O'Doul, toured Japan and played seven games against
the Japanese pros. The Seals were given a heroes's welcome and baseball's
popularity exploded.

1951 Major League All-Stars
In 1951, a group of Major
League All-Stars came to Japan and played 16 games against Japanese All-stars
and teams. The Americans won 13, lost 1, and tied 2.
Members of the team included
Joe Dimaggio (assistant manager), Dom Dimaggio, Ed Lopat, Bobby Shantz,
Ferris Fain, and Billy Martin.

1953 Eddie Lopat All-Stars
In 1953, Eddie Lopat returned
to Japan with an All-Satr team. Players included Bob Lemon, Robin
Roberts, Yogi Berra, Nellie Fox, Billy Martin, and Eddie Matheww.
Mickey Mantle was supposed
to have joined the team but didn't. The Team lost the first game
5 to 4 to the Mainichi Orions, buut then cruised to eleven straight wins.
