JAPANESE
PLAYERS IN THE MAJOR LEAGUES
The
first Japanese to play in the Major Leagues was Masanori Murakami who played
for the San Francisco Giants in 1964 and 1965 before being forced to return
to the Nankai Hawks of the Pacific League. To date nine Japanese-born
pitchers have made the jump from the Central or Pacific Leagues to the
Majors. In addition, Mac Suzuki went from the Japanese amateur leagues
to the Majors, and Korean Sang-Hoon Lee signed with the Boston Red Sox
after playing in the Central League. In the 2001 season Ichiro Suzuki
of the Seattle Mariners and Tsuyoshi Shinjyo of the Mets will become the
first Japanese position players to play in the Major Leagues. There
have also been a number of Japanese players who are, or have been, in the
U.S. Minor League system. I have cards of most of these players for
sale. Please click on the links on the sidebar.
If you don't see a card you
want, email me. I have many more in stock.
